About me

Hi there! My name is Aalia and I am a third year Honours International Development student at the University of Waterloo, run through St. Paul's University College (https://uwaterloo.ca/stpauls/). My passion for development stems from being exposed to the culture and quality of life of both the Global North and South throughout my upbringing. I was born in Nairobi, Kenya but moved to Toronto, Canada with my mother when I was a year old. My sense of adventure and curiosity of the unknown, led me to move back to my birthplace when I was twelve, where I completed the International Baccalaureate Program.

My passion for travel and adventure is what led me to study International Development. During my 22 years of life, I have been blessed to experience so many different cultures, lifestyles, and the differences in quality of life around the globe. One of the biggest realizations I have had is how blessed I am to be living in a country such as Canada that accepts diversity, and the need for other countries to be as receptive to its citizens. I hope to use my skills and experiences to develop a career in Human Rights Law that enables me to advocate for the rights of citizens around the globe.

I believe that the world does have the potential to become a much better place than it is today. I am a determined, passionate, and courageous woman that will use my voice to empower people and bring about change.
